BreedPulse product roadmap. Lives here as the single source of truth for what's next β not scattered across chats.
Right now (April 2026)
Where we are today:
Phase 1 β Launch (next 4β6 weeks)
Get paid, get stallions on the site, prove the model works.
Phase 2 β Broaden the network (2β3 months after launch)
Once the core directory is working, expand reach.
Phase 3 β Stallion Match for Connemaras (6β12 months out)
This is the big idea, inspired by stallionmatch.com. The feature that turns BreedPulse from a directory into a proper breeding tool. It's also the hardest thing on this roadmap β worth studying carefully before committing.
What Stallion Match does for thoroughbreds
Thoroughbred breeders enter a hypothetical mating (mare + stallion). The platform analyses five generations of pedigree and compares it to a database of stakes winners worldwide. It outputs a rating β "Perfect Match" or "20/20 Match" β and shows similar stakes winners with overlapping pedigrees. Farms are listed free, the platform is free for breeders, and stud farms pay to be "sponsored" with analytics on which mares are searching their stallions. It's gone from nothing to an industry-standard tool in ~12 months.
What this would look like for Connemaras
Directly applying the thoroughbred algorithm isn't possible β Connemaras don't have "stakes winners" and don't have pedigree-linked performance data at the same depth. But the underlying principle absolutely does translate. Connemaras are bred for multiple outcomes (Working Hunter, Show Jumping, Dressage, Eventing, In-Hand showing, pure breeding stock), each with its own markers of success, and breeders currently have NO tool to help them choose a stallion based on anything other than the owner's Facebook posts.
A Connemara version could offer:
- Pedigree compatibility check β mare + stallion pedigree overlap, inbreeding coefficient calculation (auto-flagged if dangerously close, Notion-simple maths), common ancestors highlighted
- HWSD safety check β if the stallion is N/HWSD (carrier) and the mare is N/HWSD (carrier), the offspring has a 25% chance of being HWSD affected. This is THE single most valuable check for Connemara breeders and is shockingly not automated anywhere
- Colour outcome predictor β based on colour genetics of sire and dam (e.g., grey Γ grey = 75% grey; cream carrier Γ cream carrier = 25% cremello/perlino), powered by existing Colour Genetics Tested / Colour Test Results fields already in Notion schema
- Height prediction band β average of parents' recorded heights with confidence interval
- Discipline fit score β if the mare's dam line is dressage-heavy and the stallion's sire line is show jumping, how likely is the foal to excel at each? This requires building a Connemara performance database β months of data work, but CPBS Online has some of it already
- "Similar successful matings" β show previous foals from stallions with similar pedigrees to yours, with their show/performance records. Requires partnership with CPBS or Eventing Ireland for data
- Shortlist / compare β save 3-5 candidate stallions, compare side by side
- Affordability filter β show me all stallions within 200km of my mare, with a stud fee under β¬500, that are HWSD-clear if my mare is a carrier
Revenue model extensions (Stallion Match-inspired)
- Stallion Owner Premium tier (β¬50β100/yr): analytics on how many mares have searched / matched with their stallion, where those mares are based, breed profile of those mares. Currently nothing like this exists for Connemara owners β they would find it hugely compelling.
- Featured Stallion placement (β¬20/month): top of search results for relevant mare searches, subject to being HWSD-clear and Class 1 licensed.
- Sponsored stud farm pages (β¬200/yr): dedicated page per stud, multiple stallions, photo gallery, farm story.
- Mare Match Report PDF (β¬25 one-off): professional PDF summarising a hypothetical mating β something mare owners can show a vet or friend. Great upsell at checkout.
- Season Pass Plus (β¬19.99/90 days): existing Season Pass + unlimited match reports.
Build strategy if we go for this
- Phase 3a β Manual prototype. Before building anything, do 20 match reports manually for real mare owners (offer it free in exchange for feedback). Prove the concept resonates and find out what breeders actually care about.
- Phase 3b β HWSD + colour calculator. Simplest useful feature: mare owner enters their mare's HWSD status and colour genetics, stallion options are auto-filtered. Low-tech, huge value. Build this first.
- Phase 3c β Inbreeding and pedigree overlap. Requires pulling pedigrees from CPBS Online API (or scraping with permission). Technical but doable.
- Phase 3d β Performance matching. The hardest bit. Needs a Connemara-specific performance database β months of data work, ideally partnered with CPBS or Connemara Pony World.
- Phase 3e β Analytics for stallion owners. Once breeders are using the match tool, stallion owners will want to know who's searching them. Natural upsell.
Honest assessment
Biggest risk: the Connemara market is much smaller than thoroughbred racing. Stallion Match can monetise because thoroughbred stud fees run to $50,000+ and one successful match pays for a huge amount of platform subscription. Connemara stud fees are β¬150β500. The platform needs to serve many more matches to make the same revenue, and the breeder pool is a fraction of the size.
But: there's literally nothing else in this space. CPBS Online has a basic hypothetical mating tool but it's creaky, not mobile-friendly, and doesn't filter by HWSD or colour or location or fee. First-mover advantage is real.
Recommendation: park the full Stallion Match feature set as aspirational. Build Phase 3b (HWSD + colour calculator) as the first tranche once directory + payments are stable β that alone would be genuinely useful and probably a bigger differentiator than anything else in the Connemara world. See how breeders respond before committing to 3cβ3e.
Phase 4 β Adjacent markets (12+ months)
Only if the core Connemara product is working:
Feature ideas parking lot (not scheduled)
Captured here so nothing's lost, not committed to building.
- WhatsApp integration β mare owner can message stallion owner directly via WhatsApp from the stallion page
- AI-generated stallion profile writer β owner uploads photos + form, Claude writes a polished bio
- Video tours of each stud farm (commissioned)
- Mare listing β mares looking for a stallion, inverted model. Risky, could dilute brand.
- Trainer/agent accounts β professionals who manage matings for multiple mare owners
- Annual Stallion of the Year award β voted by members, generates PR
- Physical swag β BreedPulse-branded rugs, stable plaques, etc. Low margin, high brand.
- Podcast with stallion owners β one episode per stallion, long-form storytelling
What's explicitly out of scope
Just as important as what's in.
- Embryo transfer brokerage β regulatory minefield, not doing this
- Insurance β out of our lane
- Selling frozen semen directly β we're the directory, not the straw warehouse
- Full CPBS replacement β CPBS does registration/passports/inspections, we don't touch any of that
- Facebook/Instagram-style social feed β not a community platform, a directory
